Neat.
One wild thought I had a couple of weeks ago was to build a smallish wooden boat, put two motors on it, and not put a wheel on it at all. The steering would be accomplished strictly by differential thrust. One thought was to possibly use a microcontroller to watch a joystick, and drive the motors based on the joystick. The motors could be mounted entirely under the hull, though I'd probably still want a "kick up" option in case the boat ever needed to be beached.
Not sure how practical this is. But if it could be done with two trolling motors, each with a Torqeedo prop, then at least it wouldn't cost a fortune to try. The next question would be where to get transistors that could switch up to 50A??? :)

John,
That last photo got cut off. In this one you can see what's what.

(though maybe we should wait and buy up several props before word gets back to Torqeedo that their prop on a $500-$1000 motor would work "good enough" to avoid spending $3500 on a Torqeedo....)What size boat do you have? [Attachment(s) from Glenn Holland included below]John,I'm experimenting with a torqeedo prop on a 24V Motor Guide now. I have not taken any calibrated measures but it seems to push my boat at hull speed with about 25% less throttle. Photo attached.keep it floatin,Glenn Holland
