[Electric Boats] Re: Converted motors / Torqeedo props / steering just by motor...

The motors on my small cat (Sunplucker photos) are fixed and near amidships.

It can be skid steered, and that works pretty well at low speed, calm conditions.

At maximum speed, a lot of the ability to steer is lost, because neither motor can be sped up.

In a cross-wind, one motor has to run harder to hold the bow straight, and once it is wide open, top speed has been reached and the ability to steer has become limited.

If it is unevenly loaded, the heavy side needs more power to track straight.

Under those conditions, it is easier to further use a rudder to steer.

I'll take and add photos of the rudder system later.
