Re: [Electric Boats] Re: Siandra unplugged (Now Hydro Generators)

Todd,
I've looked at the Ampair units also as well as the towed generators and they look fairly solid, I have no experience with either of these unites.   As far as cost, one thing to consider is the market audience, small, in comparison to many other areas, thus the cost is much higher than other "widgets"..    if the market proved higher and the volume increased the competition would go up and the prices would come down.

The Ampair Duogen is about $4500 and towed generators run about 1200. I think the 7k units are for those who like things to be really shiny. The Duogen gives some good numbers on what can be expected from an optimized 12" system, including drag. It's also interesting that the Duogen costs more than a wind generator and towed generator combined. It may be that the complexity/expense required to use a electric drive for regeneration is the limiting factor.

Sales of more than 100 units a year seems pretty reasonable.  I look forward to reading the measured results from the first successful version that costs 1/5 of the current retail price.
