To comply with ABYC Standard E-2 Storage Batteries, the batteries must be in a container that will contain spilled electrolyte from a ruptured battery and the batteries have to be restrained so they cannot move in any plane > 1" when subjected to a force of 90# or twice the battery's weight.
For AGMs and LFPs, I build a tray and use nylon strapping to restrain the batteries.
