Being in the mechanical contracting/engineering industry the moment I saw Method 2 it made perfect sense. This is similar to a reverse return piping system for a bank of storage tanks or boilers to ensure equal flow thru the shells.
I would never thought about this principal in regard to wiring a battery bank.
