Re: [Electric Boats] Conversion is underway!

Hi Bill,

Sorry I need to ask, what kind of 30 ft sailboat do you have i.e.
displacement not brand as you have already told us? I notice you have
asked about stringers. The weight and vibration is not an issue as much
as the torque you well be able to apply. The kit you purchased is what
25hp? That will be a lot of torque if you lay into it, (or fall on the
stick). I would use good old Lead Acid batteries, You will hear lithium
but chargers must be trouble free to keep the batteries from bricking.
To cruise, simple rock solid low tech systems are easer to repair in
backwoods ports. Import duties in many places are through the roof and
in most countries lead acid is universal.

Most of the weight you install in your boat will be the batteries so
keep them low in the boat to keep your center of gravity as low as you
can. One advantage of lead, is it is ballast that will make your boat a
little slower but stiffer under sail.

Just remember, the latest and greatest is cool, but purpose built is better.

May your sails always be full and the wind always at your back.
