Re: [Electric Boats] Re-E-Power

I sure feel for Doug because the situation sucks. I hope things get resolved satisfactorily. I agree with Capt. Len either Pay Pal or credit card would be the way to go to get some modicum of protection when buying an electric propulsion system or anything for that matter. This is an industry in it's infancy and those who go with electric propulsion are still early adopters as I found when I told my boat insurance company that I was pulling out the diesel and putting in an electric motor. The first response was "YOUR GOING TO DO WHAT?"  I was also concerned that the company I was planning on buying the system from was at first not as responsive as I would have liked. I finally concluded as Len points out these are relatively small operations at this point and probably get bombarded with more curious inquires than truly interested buyers.  Response was much better when they understood I was a very serious buyer.
These small operations probably also get into cash flow problems faster than the bigger ICE companies which is what may have happened here which is why you need the protection of a Pay Pal or credit card company when things don't go as planned.

to the Group

I can't suggest too strongly that you only pay through PayPal for
products. Their dispute and fund recovery is excellent.

I recovered over $1000 earlier this year from a party that took funds
for services and disappeared at least stopped communicating.

Keep records. emails and any contracts. be prepared to copy and fax.
for some reason they will not take support documentation to a claim via
email

I had a 35 page file of all communications that were faxed and make
recovery possible.

Lots of people are start small business with the best of intentions, get
in over their head and pull an ostrich. Not stealing maybe but not
honorable either.

Back in the 80's I presold a dozen vessels before going into
production. Material costs then doubled and the price sold for barely
covered the material costs. Everyone got their boat if they wanted it
at the agreed price and the rest a few refund .

It cost me my business and I never fully recovered but was my loss and
problem and I took the hit. I find this a rare trait today.
