Perhaps you might consider using a 120v ac alternator and power battery chargers or a 24v dc and a dc to dc converter. With the 120 v charger you get the benefit of smart charging. Several guys have done what I am planning, using a Honda 1000 or 2000 gas for a hybrid system.
