[Electric Boats] Re: Interesting motor

 

Something to think about, a heavy, slow speed, high torque electric motor, will likely cost less than an exotic motor like this one, which will need a heavy transfer box for a slower speed, high thrust prop.
A UAV will have a somewhat free cooling system, where a slow moving boat will require some kind of power robbing cooler system.

Any motion control catalog will show a good example of horsepower transfer, as compared to weight and mass of gears and shaft sizes needed to hold up to power applications.

This is what I think I have found to be consistently true, every time I thought I found some kind of loop hole. :)
It does look good and it beats the 10KW motor built for the GM Sunracer, which was the size of a soft drink can and weighed about 7 pounds.
