[Electric Boats] Re: Hello, New to group - do I have enough data to consider conversion?

 

Well you could probably get 5 or 6 knots out of a couple torqueedo cruise 4.0 outboard units and with the weight of the two inboards out could probably get 1000lbs of batteries in without adding any extra weight to the boats original weight.. A 10000 watt generator and you could run forever... You will just have to give up 75+ percent of the speed you get now. You could probably do the whole thing, 2 torqueedos, a gas generator and flooded batteries for around 10 grand. If you did the work yourself.

This is just off the cuff though... you would need to refine it quite a bit depending what kind of components you ended up with.

If you used a Gas generator I would recommend a very highly vented above decks generator box with some serious fire extinguishers. I'm not a big fan of gas engines on boats but the cost of a 10000 watt industrial gas generator is less than 2000 dollars compared to more than 10000 for a diesel.
