My batteries are stored 6 months of the year while the water thaws out. 
On h last sail of the year, I simply don't recharge the pack upon returning. 
Since it gets cold (well below -20degC for weeks at a time) here and the data sheets all mention storage temperatures of -20degC - 40degC, I disconnect them and remove them from the boat, and store them in my basement. Beyond that, they sit there alone in the dark with nothing but the blip of their BMS modules to keep them company. By the spring, it takes about an hour to charge back up at the dock. I keep them charged all summer, but never "floated". Once the BMS or charger cuts charge current, they rest there. Coming up on season 4 with them.

What I would like to know is how to manage the batteries when the boat is idle for periods of time.  We tend to park the boat for three or four months in the winter.

What is the best practice when the batteries are idle for periods of time?
