Re: [Electric Boats] Electric paddlewheel

This. Double your storage. You will be glad you did.

Also a single stage chain and sprocket reduction will require cutting a very large sprocket. If your small one is say 12 teeth, the big one will be about 480 teeth. Someone mentioned swamp cooler pulleys and I will add pulleys from large industrial ventilation fans. Check McMaster Carr, for starters, and see how big a pulley you can get from them. Hit your local junkyards too. Also fabricating a big pulley is much simpler than fabricating a big sprocket, I think.

And if you are at all concerned about burning up the motor, a bigger motor can dissapate a lot more heat but will not use up any more power than a smaller motor, doing the same work. If you can see fit to go with a 5kw motor there are a lot of options. And as for still bigger motors, the ME0913 is a tank. They show up used sometimes. A salvaged motor from a golf cart or small electric forklift, complete with controller, might be had for cheap. Of course that doesn't fix the root problem, but it gives you less to panic and worry about.
