It was the technician I spoke to, that recommended the Gel-batteries based on the following:
- They cannot leak acid
- They can be discharged more then FLA
- They do not suffer the same way as AGM's if they are not FULLY (many hours) recharged
- In his experience (he has done this in many many years) life-time is better on Gel
- They are not that more expensive (here in Denmark about the same as AGM's)
- In my boat it would be an advantage that they can be mounted at a slight angle (lockers below settees)
That was the GEL arguments :-)
I haven't made a decision yet, still evaluating pros and cons.
He also mentioned this alternative (LifePo4) build as a system with 12 volt "bricks" but still Prismatic cells.
It might take some complexity out and weight down.
