[Electric Boats] Re: New member, developing electric outboard

 

35-40 foot sailboat? Maybe up to 45? That is, if the shaft is long enough. Otherwise a big dinghy, small whaler, maybe a bass boat. I think the sailboat would be impressive since a fairly large boat will approach hull speed with that much power. My Cal 2-27 and a 5kw motor gets up to about 70% of hull speed.

A McGregor 26 and a pair of water skis? The McG would push dead easy in calm water at 3-4 kts, for a range demonstration. But you could POSSIBLY get it up out of the hole and demonstrate some speed. Worth looking into. Of course nay-sayers would point out that a McGregor 26 is not much of a boat.
