RE: [Electric Boats] RE: 5KW or 10 KW

 

Boat: 2004 Lagoon 410 Catamaran

Hull length: 41 feet

Weight: 9 tons ( 8.5 tons once I get some LiFePo4’s)

Electric Drives: 2 - 9KW Motors (12HP ea.), 74 lb-ft Torque per side

Props: 18” custom by WildCat Props- straight shaft drive (Never been able to figure out what the reports tell me.)

Batteries 12 AGM’s in series ( 144V system )

Motors are twin Homewood Motors (Westinghouse) connected in series for 4 motors total with 2 controllers per set.

Hull speed: Around 7 knots

Amps used: 30A per side (total) @ 6 knots (74A max.)

Run time: about 2.5 hours @ 6 knots

Genset output: 80A

Run time with 16 KW Genset: estimated at 45 hours @ 6 knots or until the Diesel runs out.

Regen starts at better than 3 knots under sail.
