You missed my point, Eric got it.
My comment wasn't about hull speed.
Hell, some of the newer MacGregor 26's (X and M models) will support a 50 HP+ gas engine and pull a water skier.
My point was pedigree. If you're going to pour your heart soul (and money) into a project boat, it doesn't make much sense to start with a boat that really doesn't have much value.
There are lots of abandoned sailboats out there.

It's about hull speed not about fast......sail boat have a very good hull speed.
