Re: [Electric Boats] Re: How to sail - fixed links

Ryan
My girlfriend really liked heavy weather sailing, so much that I asked her to marry me Most displacement boats are designed to generate the most hull speed at a 15- 20 degree heel. Thus, my girlfriend and now wife did not have to experience the white knuckle action of excessive heel because with proper sail choice and trim only an accidental broach created excessive heel. I encourage sailors to make the first experiences of new sailors controlled and only press the envelop in those cases such as when racing when you have an experienced crew. I eventually ask my girlfriend to marry me at the 10 minute warning gun before a race and asked for an answer before the start. It was my only way of getting a really good girl to make a bad decision and say yes:-)

Subject: [Electric Boats] Re: How to sail - fixed links

Thanks for the feedback Richard, much appreciated

I had the same problem with girlfriends I tried to introduce to sailing,
the heeling totally freaked them out.
When they understand the pendulum effect of the keel, I think most of
that fear goes away.
The current girlfriend thinks heeling is a blast and keeps wanting to
broach, which has me white knuckled! Not sure there's a lesson for
that!

May well create a lesson on heeling/heavy weather/broaching. I think
that is definitely lacking in the standard keelboat 101 certification
courses.

Thanks again
Ryan
