[Electric Boats] Re: electric Sailboats

 

Hi Bill,

I understand the advantages of electric motorsailing, adding a little power to increase speed and pointing - I do it often. What I am proposing here is that our boats should be able to sail (well) in light wind conditions. On longer trips you need to reduce the amount you use your motor (if you do not want to run a generator) and that usually means sailing in the light stuff.

Looking forward to seeing you guys at the Strictly Sail show in Oakland. This is Mark Frasca. Last I spoke with you I was thinking about sailing my Ericson 27 (w/ SolidNav Explorer) up to the show in Oakland from Santa Cruz. I had hoped to be able to have my boat available for display but that is looking unlikely. The organizers are having a hard time justifying giving me a $2000 space for nothing (I understand their issue). And since I'm not commercially involved I have no interest shelling out that kind of money :-). I was looking forward to the trip up and thought it would be a nice shot in the arm for EP if an EP display boat had just made a substantial journey to get there. Oh well.

Thanks for the offer to install an Electric Yachts motor at the Strictly Sail show at a reduced rate. That would be an interesting exhibit for the masses to see. I did send out an email to some friends letting them know the offer was there but I haven't heard back from anyone that was interested.
