If you really don't need the light, try a 220 volt light instead in the 110
volt socket. These will give you half the watts or so in, and should last
forever.

good post, I have been using the old lite bulb in a stove pipe on a block of
wood to chase moisture...Would u know the life span of these ceramic
(Exo-terra-40 watt) bulbs? Most of the bulbs I have been using burn out
quite quickly. Thanks
