lol ok.. musta been different boat popped into the search engine.. 3100lb right about 1.5 ton, and general rule of thumb being a kw per ton.. so one of those robotmarketplace motors might be real nice in there. theres definitely other members here that know lots more than I do, but for budget inboard power swapover, those motors look pretty good to me :) -driveshaft and prop are already there for the diesel yes? a "toy kids boat" I'd built with a 250w scooter motor (rated 24v 2500rpm).. with 12v maybe 1200rpm direct driven, sure didnt lack torque! might have been 1/2 its rated power and rpms, never even got warm was nice. has me thinking that amp-flow F30-400 may behave similarly, 2400rpm on 12v maybe 2:1 reduction to spin 800-1000 rpm at prop loaded? couple wet cells in parallel likely some good runtime from it. be about 3/4 kw per ton is fairly close to ballpark kw-ton, or the motor thats 3.8hp. theres always the option of going 24v and going 3:1 or 4:1 ratio pretty easily, would put it nearer 2 kw-ton. I'm no expert, just seems pretty doable

3100lb displacement. Twin keels. I might be open to an outboard if it makes the best financial sense.
Shelagh Sent from my iPad just looked and she's pretty light weight.. 180kg 400 lbs empty? I'm only guessing it isnt going to need much hp at all, for fully loaded being 1/2 ton. theres 1.2hp 900w 24v to maybe belt drive to it. seems good bang for the buck, they have replaceable brushes too looks like. idk "how appropriate" really, can depend on belt-gear-sprocket ratios, might be fairly reasonable drop ins for supplying 12-24v to. they've got me thinking. --- On Mon, 8/13/12, shelaghd3 <shelagh@dolphin-designs.com> wrote: From: shelaghd3 <shelagh@dolphin-designs.com> Subject: [Electric Boats] Westerly Nomad To: electricboats@yahoogroups.com Date: Monday, August 13, 2012, 9:04 AM
I have a 1968 Westerly Nomad with original 7hp Volvo MD1. Keeping in mind this is a $2000 sailboat....
I live in a solar powered house and when I lived on my Rival 34, all power was supplied by solar and wind. Clean energy is important to me and this poor old diesel has certainly seen better days. I am looking for the most affordable solution for an inboard conversion. Typically I would be motoring 20 minutes beginning and end of trip, occasionally motoring longer in calms.
