[Electric Boats] Hybrid Installation for Catalina 30?

I have recently seen a couple of references to "Hybrid" installations for some boats - where an electric motor is mounted in parallel to the existing inboard engine (gas or diesel).

This seems appealing - as it is not very intrusive at all, and leaves the traditional motor in place for "resale value".
(While we can debate over a boat should be less, or MORE valuable with an electric upgrade, there's no doubt that if you have BOTH, you can't at all question that the value should be at least the same as a comparable traditional boat.)

Anyway - does anyone have any experience installing a hybrid setup on anything like a Catalina 30?
Do you have to pull the boat to be able to get an extra pully / gear on the prop shaft, or can it all be done in the water?
Can a belt be used to drive the shaft, or does this require gear/chain?

Thanks,
John
