You can easily push a catalina 30 or even 35 to hull speed with 5 hp  . 

and yes there are others,Now the these vessels came with inboards mostly , and that can now be efficiently replaced with an electric inboard , from various outfits  So, check out the Electric Yachts website!

However,  if you still want an electric out board, look into a Parsun 2995, this puppy runs on 48 volts can replace a 9.9 outboard and it Provides 100 amps of continuous current and a 10 second "power boost" of 140 amps to get you away from the dock. Remote Control, 12 ft. cable, spare power connector, and manual. 2 year limited manufacturers warranty. 

or the Ray500 , if you want a strong electric outboard , this puppy is rated at 5 bhp, , now it need 60 volts of batteries to run , but hey 

or the "aqua watt" motor is even way stronger , it is German company. 

I would recommend the Parsun E/Y system , A). it's American, , B) the dealers are all over the great lakes , even New England, Florida , Washington, Oregon, and California. They have a reputation for building quality long lasting value into their products. I have been researching this whole concept for some time now as I plan to convert my Bristol yacht to electric , probably in the spring. We were on lake Eire for most of the summer, there is never a shortage of wind on Eire , but it is almost always coming from the west , and the vessel is not new so the old engine  can be problematic to say the least.

Are there any electric outboards out there that have more than the 5HP equivalent? For example, anything that could push a Catalina 30?

Are there any directions for taking an old 20HP outboard, removing the gas powerhead, and replacing it with an electric motor and controller?
