[Electric Boats] Re: Charger Replacement Recommendations?

I have to agree with Mike. Unless you are on a severe budget, go with a 10kw or 12kw motor and at least a 10kw/hr bank of flooded batteries or at least 7.5kw/hr bank of LiFeP04 batteries. Size your charger appropriately. The motor only costs a couple hundred bucks more, same for the appropriate size controller. The bigger motor does not use any more power at a given speed than a 5kw motor but you have reserve power. The motor should last longer, and the controller too. As for the batteries, it is so nice even for a daytripper to have enough juice to run a fridge, small AC, etc for a few hours, or to slowly motor all day long. A cheap 300A peak current, 48v square wave controller and a 5kw motor and a bank of 4 group 31 batteries with a homebrew belt reduction gear or a used transmission of some kind (a junk transmission from an old Model A would work great!) and adding cable, connectors, couplings, using the original prop, and sure, you can get in for well under $2k, but you would be very marginal for range or power. I have a smaller boat than you, and I prefer the ME0913 motor and 500A controller over a lower power setup.
