I'm with you to the extent of a separate thrust bearing or gearbox for offshore to accept shock and transfer load to hull if set up that way, but I'm also happy my double row angular contact bearing in my motor can absorp shock and has a sufficient safety factor for coastal work, in my small boat with 2 blade small prop in an aperture behind long keel, with flex coupling and flex mounts. Thanks to SKF and Hannu for some calcs.
