Hi Miles,
I paid the $586 shown on the website for six "packs", figuring it goes
to support Richard's racing efforts:
http://www.ev-wholesale.com/32-AH-Energy-Module-Kit-6-29-modules-MP320-049-HC-BO-2.htm
Unlike the EnerDels from EVolve, which were fully assembled AND with
the flex connector, these came in a box without the connector and the
need to assemble the packs myself, which is ok as I'll be building
custom "24v" and "48v" packs and including fuses at the cell on each
outgoing signal line. I had been previously using PowerLab8s for my
centralized charging schemes and preferred to continue that concept
instead of switching to a distributed BMS.
Still haven't installed the Orion BMS (on my near-term project list),
but so far (after six months of daily use in the Sparrow) the pack and
individual cell balance is amazingly close. I limit my charge/
discharge SOC range between 25% and 80% until I get the BMS operational.
You got a great deal on that THINK pack and management cards! I'm sure
you have years of life left in those.
One reason I like the EnerDel chemistry is that, unlike LiFePO4, the
voltage simply sits where you last left it with no decay. Thus,
voltage is a good way of determining SOC without having to do coulomb
counting. Also, under load, the very low ESR means there is little
voltage sag, even when sucking serious amps.
Miles, I need to catch up on your boat configuration. Any links?
As an aside, I'm looking for dc-dc converters with adjustable output
voltages and fairly wide input voltage ranges -
12vdc --> 54v,500w+/-
48v --> 350vdc, 1kW+
Anyone have any sources?
Cheers,
JoeS.
