I have been an open water sailor for many years, currently sail on a 32' Pilothouse motorsailor, and am now downsizing to something on the order of a 20' sail for use in protected waters. My preference is for inboard power and the size constraints of a small boat make an inboard electric installation look attractive.
My background is in electronics and I have retired from a career in elevator motion control so motors and controls are familiar ground. I am looking forward to exploring the list and finding what others have done. Sizing the motor and propeller are of a concern as well as efficiency. Getting enough batteries in a small boat might be an issue although I do not expect to have to have long run times as it will be basically a harbor boat.
