Re: [Electric Boats] Honda EU2000i as DC genset?

The inverter in the Honda does more than just 'invert', it's the magic
that lets the engine speed vary while the voltage/frequency output stays
the same. The engine governor is probably intimately connected to the
inverter, my EU20i has nice diagrams of how every thing is connected,
but that's at home and i'm at work...
I think the 12v battery terminals are only 12v when the 'eco mode' is
turned off, thus the engine speed is locked.

The practical upshot is that the output of the alternator connected to
the engine probably varies wildly in voltage and frequency and a lot of
the efficiency of the Gen-Set is lost with out the inverter and it's
control circuits. You a probably better of hacking up a cheaper
non-inverter type gen-set that has a simpler engine speed governor.
