[Electric Boats] Re: Vetus electric propulsion

I bought a Vetus electric Hybrid motor 4 years ago and installed it in my Catalina 30. The motor has performed excellently but is underpowered for the boat. My Catalina 30 weighs almost 12,000 lbs fully laden - She has a 22 KWH battery bank. The boat achieves 4 knots of boat speed in calm conditions. This is a great motor for a 7,000 lb, 27 foot boat maximum. I am interested in selling this motor for $3,000 U.S. O.B.O.

You can see a picture of the motor at

The Vetus setup came as electric only or hybrid. I purchased the hybrid. It is meant as a Serial Hybrid to go behind up to a 16 h.p. motor. When the motor is running, the electric motor will generate at 50 amps @ 24 volts. Generation is optional by way of a remote switch. The accelerator is very professional with an on / off switch, friction hold, with center detente. The motor is keel cooled with a closed system filled with glycol. Water is pumped through a bronze fitting mounted on the outside of the hull.

If the motor were more powerful, I would keep it forever. It has valiantly done a job for 4 years on a boat requiring a motor twice the size.

Feel free to contact me for more information.
