Nice!  An off-board charger/balancer does address the two concerns of not wanting a BMS failure point out in the field, but still wanting good charging/balance.

I still think it could work to push 43.8V (current-limited) to your 12S LFP pack.  But might not be worth running that experiment now that you have a better way.
