Hi Luke,

The main disadvantages I see are as follows:

1) If you're running 4 engines at the same time, I would expect it would be challenging to get the thrust even between the 4 engines.  Wouldn't you have to be very careful with where you placed the engines and potentially write some code to balance out the individual thrust on each engine at different speeds?
2) The system sounds alot more complicated than just one engine, I would guess that it would involve alot more maintenance and potential for things to go sideways.
3) Messing with the hull shape could impact sailing performance; if you don't plan on doing any racing that may not be an issue.

I would tend to agree with the other posters and suggest pulling the old "atomic bomb" out and replacing it with an electric of similar horsepower.  That way you're following the same thrust lines of the original engine that the boat was designed for.

Good luck!  Please send photos of the install as it goes.  I sail my Kirby 30 on Lake Ontario and am in the process of replacing my Yanmark YSM 8 with a Thunderstruck 10Kw kit.
