As long as the inverter is rated for significantly more than what the charger draws, I see no reason why the charger would require pure sine wave AC. Possibly a pure sine wave would be slightly more efficient, is all. Modified sine wave is not recommended for CFL or LED lighting, or AC motors, though they do in fact usually run, just hum a little louder and maybe get slightly warmer, and might not last as long. And solid state equipment that is particularly RF sensitive might not perform well around modified sine wave because it is much noisier. But if you want to hear it straight from the horse's mouth, maybe it would be worth your bother to contact the manufacturer of the charger you intend to buy. Another option would be a dedicated sine wave inverter rated for just what it takes to charge the battery.
