Scott,
Saw your posting. Your project may be overly optimistic for the state of electric propulsion market. I am not sure of what is available for your sized boat. I am currently looking for a 32-34ft trawler to convert to a hybrid. Three all electric drive systems that I see with some reasonable capabilities:
Electric Yacht is just now starting to build motors in the 50kW 96v motor (about the same push as an 80hp motor) http://electricyachtsocal.com/product/quiettorque-50-0-lc/
Elco has a 144v motor just smaller and bit heavier and push like a good 75hp diesel

Torqeedo has a new product in the Deep Blue line that is very high voltage and in the 60kW range http://www.torqeedo.com/images/pdf/deep_blue/TQ_DeepBlue_Hybrid_Flyer.pdf
If you give me the boat details I can run a projection for you that will give you a good idea of what can and cannot be accomplished with electric on your trawler:
· LOA 50ft
· LWL ?
· Beam ?
· Displacement ?
· Engine make and size?
· # of engines 2
· Propeller data Diameter & pitch ?
· Required cruising speed ?
· Required cruising range ?
Weight and design matter. Most trawlers are what we refer to as heavy displacement boats. They have a displacement shaped hull but no significant keel like a sailboat. It takes about 50% more power pushing this type of boat than a full displacement sailboat with keel. Semi-displacement boat are even more inefficient and planing boats have poor displacement speed characteristics. We have converted several trawlers and currently have our systems in one new construction boat. You may also want to look at the Greenline boats to get an idea of how they build their hybrid trawlers using new hull design, light weight material, and create a very nice package.
Out new construction trawler information:
Naval Yachts of Antalya Turkey Naval Yachts of Antalya Turkey - http://www.navalyachts.com/ page.php?id=26 - is offering the Electric Yacht QuietTorque™ 30.0 system in their new innovative 50ft green hybrid motor yachts. "Sustaining both functionality and innovation, GreeNaval's main advantage is based on the material used for building the yacht, aluminum. Properly constructed, aluminum is the world's premium yacht building material combining light weight, high strength and easy workability all in one package." "Another distinct feature of GreeNaval resides on 4 different options regarding the propulsion system, depending on the customer's needs and requirements." 1.Full green option Electric Yacht has been designing electric propulsion systems for boats since 2004. Following years of design, development, and testing, the QuietTorque™ products were announced in 2010. Since then over 300 systems have be installed in boats, mostly in North America but around the world. Today Electric Yacht systems can be found in boat to 65ft and 40000 pound. From small day sailors to world cruising sailing catamarans, the QuietTorque™ product line spans from the smallest QuietTorque™ 5.0 to the latest announced QuietTorque™ 50.0LC (liquid cooled) Each system we build is engineered and built to the specific boating and the sailing requirements of its owner. Once we understand how you use your boat and the scope of your sail plan, from day sailing to ocean passage making, we will create a computer projection to compliment it.
