Thanks Mike, sounds like a good idea, coincides with mine. I was looking for a long term charge and storage set up, when my main 1st. charger died at a remote boat show in the water. I had it "secure" inside a closed battery seat box, and it got too hot, now trying to fix that. The show goes on, so I bought a pair of Stanley 15 amp BC 1509 SEL -- motor charge – batt. condition – tests and built in timer – that works super well. Hook up one charger per each side of 2 batts, charge one each side at a time and compare status charts on each batt. Another about $150. for both, well spent, since those 2 fit any 12 volt car unit very well.
That's a back up system for the bigger (newest) charger that I had the China factory special build for lead and (they say) VRLA batts, for full pack of 48 volt deep cycle batts. – five levels of charge at 15 amps max. Full timers and chge. rate plus more info. Great folks, they gave me a special contact who translated to the tech dept. and they built a special unit for my boat free, shipped free, in exchange I gave them the details so it became part of their "by request" special orders. I need to send another timed note to them for follow up asap. I still like the cost of my equipment, lower tech batts., but dollars well used for gauges.
Not leaving that new charger on board over time though, or outside in weather. Winter is a trickle battery minder 48 volt chge, and cycler, like everybody else uses, on the big boat. Sail rig uses the Harbor freight trickle unit. When I get over medical shoulder muscle problems, comes vented fan battery boxes, before summer – got tons of tests to do yet.
Love you ideas, and thanks !! We be hot footin' soon for central America by plane and boat for a big Mayan, and possibly a new Toltec architectural dig site. Never been to the Virgins yet, but have a friend who built a 46' native proa in Maui, that we get to haul around on, plus diving stuff like you have – just not as good as your spots, id bet. The "left" coast is a long way to fly around, past the Hawaii or Alaska area. Virgins (islands ! ) on our bucket list !!
Best Wishes, have a dive for me, ----- Cal

Welcome to the electric fleet Cal. Sounds like you got a nice system going for you. You might want to charge the individual batteries with a 12 volt charger from time to time to keep them from going out of balance. You could also use something like a Dual Pro 4 charger like I have that does all four. But, just using a single 12 charger on each individual battery should work too. My 8A4D AGM is still going strong after seven years. Take care of the batterries and they will take care of you.
Capt. Mike
