[Electric Boats] Re: new lithium battery breakthrough?

Hi Gabe (yes, some of us pay attention),

Pick up almost any issue of Popular Scienc from the 1990's and you'll see articles about a nummber of "promising" energy technologies that never came to fruition. While some have alluded to a conspiracy by "petro-based" utility companies and out government to thwart individually owned power generation, I can say that my local electricity utility, Southern California Edison, is actively promoting and subsidising distributed solar generation, specifically so that they don't have to build more generation plants. I know this from personal conversations with executives within the company, not just promotional material.

This yahoo group, unlike many online discussion boards, tends to be practical, focusing on what we can do today, not what we "might" be able to do "some day". So while some people are here talking about what they might do if they ever buy a boat, many of us are here to discuss how to deal with the practical issues that confront electric boaters today.

I do agree that it's nice to fantasize about what may come in future, I would rather spend my time sharing my experiences with the people that are really converting their boats and getting electric boats on the water now.

So while it's interesting to note a development that isn't focused on electic boating that "might" lead to improvements in our systems in 5 to 10 years, I agree with Ed that our conversations and purpose are better served by focusing on what can be useful to us "everyday" electric boat owners today.

So if you don't understand Ed's comment, then yes, you missed something.
