I am in the process of purchasing a drive from Scott at EY- he has been extremely helpful.

I am currently building a 21-foot, double ender sailboat at 4,635 lbs of displacement. The boat was designed for an inboard engine but I was considering installing an electric drive system. I had been talking to ELCO about using one of their systems but became frustrated by them. I searched the net and found Electric Yacht (www.electricyacht.com). Scott has been very helpful and has recommended a 24 volt system with the electric motor in line with the shaft.

My questions to you folks are:

1. Has any one worked with or know of Electric Yacht and can provide me with some input.

2. Are there other system suppliers that you would recommend that I contact?
3. On this group site, there is a link to Advanced Marine electric Propulsion (AMeP) (www.advancedmarineelectricpropulsion.com) . As stated on their web site "The motor unit contains a brushless DC, permanent magnet, variable speed motor and controller in a watertight housing. " That seems like a good idea but don't really know. Any thoughts or comments on this arrangement?
4. In general, any recommendations on what I should be considering or even avoid would be useful.
Thank you in advance
Dave
