RE: [Electric Boats] Re: Charging batteries in series?

Capt, Mike,

And how many batteries do you have?

I use a combination of wind, solar and a Honda 2000 generator via the battery charger (or grid power if at a dock). After a day of sailing and using some EP I will use the Honda to recharge the EP. bank at anchor (along with the solar and wind turbine). After the bank is charged back up solar and wind pretty much keep things topped up. I will occasionally tap into the EP battery bank to run some things like a breadmaker via the 48 volt inverter. But, the solar and wind turbine usually make that up easily.

Usually most are matched or within .1 volts of each other. It's interesting to see that one never knows which battery will finish charging first. It might be a few seconds or minutes of each other. I so far can not detect any one being a consistent laggard in charging after eight years of service using the Dual Pro.

Thanks 'Capt. Mike'

I have wondered about the Dual Pro essentially four chargers each wired to a battery in a series stack.  I have drawn the circuit a couple of times trying to convince myself that the currents really balance.  How well do the batteries end up with the same potential on each after charging?
