I just uploaded some pics to my folder labeled "A Simple Hybrid Electric Shantyboat" where my owner-designed 4 by 12 foot double eded scow Dr. Meg displays her utility.
Dr. Meg is propelled by a #40 Minkota trolling motor to cruise speed of 3.7 mph on calm water burning .25 GPH in a PowerPro 2.5 HP 4 stroke engine (1.5 HP actual at 3000 rpms) turning a 63 amp 1960 Delco-Reme/Chrysler externally regulated alternator using a rheostat to manually control field current. I get enough current run the trolling motor at full speed (32 amps) plus 5 amps charging current. The 3-point landing/launching gear is used to handle the boat on land, including loading onto its trailer. I have a 1/4 HP X 800 rpm 12 volt motor that powers the front wheel with about a 1:7 chain drive, but is not in the photos.
In the photos is shown the poptop cabin shell that I designed the boat to use. It gives a fully enclosed 4' w by 8' l by 4' tall fully enclosed cabin. This cabin shell will be completed for next summer (2012). It collapses down flush to the deck, providing a 2' by 4' cockpit. I plan on equipping her for sailing in the near future as well.
This is a very fun hobby!

Gene
