It has been my research and experience, that O/B drives can range from 1.75 to 3:1, depending on make, HP, year model, and options. You can even get jet drive lowers for some models. In the case of my project, I found a limited offering od a 2.33:1 ration for a few 80-140 HP Merc outboards. This was ideal for my application and provided the best RPM range for my creation of which I will expound on more soon. (18.5' twin electric driven tugboat)

Subject: Re: [Electric Boats] Re: Any experience or ideas for newbie electric conversion on Newport 16 sailboat?
Does anyone know the rpm for a outboard prop? Or the input to output ratio of the gearbox? Thanks for all the input.
My electric boat plans are evolving rapidly. I gave up and sold the 25' catamaran Amas project and bought a electric GMC Sinoma conversion to tow the Newport 16 sailboat. For this I'd like to convert a long shaft outboard to electric.
I sold the Amas to a Long Islander, Gary, who has built 6 solar electric boats and told him and a few others about this forum.
