[Electric Boats] Re: Reusing 48VDC Components

Sounds good to me, Bob, though you are getting close to what I would regard as the upper end in boat size, for a 48v system. 12kw that's what... about 16hp? Enough for most docking situations., certainly.

That Electroprop setup... that is belt drive, right? If so, changing ratios is a pretty simple thing, and so you could just go with a nice big prop and experiment with the reduction ratio until you find your sweet spot.

My only concern is are you selling the C&C? Without propulsion? You might want to leave the entire electroprop setup in place, since it is a well known system and not a homebrew redneck mashup of components. You know enough about E.P. now that you could put your own 12kw 48v system together for the Shannon, and with the branded E.P. system in the C&C, you might get more motivated buyers to consider pulling the trigger. Just an idea. Maybe your local brokers can tell you if any electric boats have sold, lately. And starting from scratch on powering the Shannon lets you reconsider things like a higher voltage system, or an induction motor or brushed motor system, etc.

Electricmotorsport is a pretty good vendor. I bought two motors from them, and a gearbox. Their prices are hard to beat.

Either way sounds good, and I know you are going to like the Shannon. Great boat.
