I appreciate the suggestions regarding retrofitting an outboard with electric motor. I stumbled on a 0.4 hp permanent magnet motor in 24 volt. It's 1800 rpm. And only $120 from Surplus Center. I'm concerned it may not have the power needed in this power to weight ratio of a Newport 16. I'd like to find a 2hp outboard to install it in.
