Hi, Craig! 25 mm belts are popular, and big enough for the common electric boat motors. McMaster-Carr has a good selection of pulleys and hubs. I think Thunderstruck has a belt reduction unit ready made, using a flat timing belt. I found a thrust bearing at Glenn-L. Really, the only good reason I can see for using multiple vee belts is you can easily find replacements just about anywhere. The flat belts are clearly more efficient.
