that's exactly how i've made my canal cruiser. i can't see any other way of doing it simply and effectively. the only other key i was not going to compromise on was using off the shelf componentry front to back,so no matter where in europe i end up any local electrical wholesaler/supplier can fix/replace/repair any component i have unused.
i am a tech junkie myself but realised the existing or even last years "best thing" is probably a lot more practical than next years!
waiting for the next gen panels for that 3-4% efficiency increase, or batteries that promise a 5-10% space/weight reduction or, or, or would mean i would be waiting and not cruising!
if weight, speed or space is not your premium consideration use "appropriate technology" and enjoy life
