Re: [Electric Boats] Re: The Bigger Picture

Unless you go used the motor and controller will cost you $1,100.00 8 6v batteries will cost you $1,600.00 again unless you go used. That is roughly $3,000.00 for a new system. Or you can spend the $4,000.00 and get a pre-made one from Electric yachts. and still have to buy batteries. The thing is it is a magnetic motor no brushes or pistons or valves no water pumps or water. flip a key and go. For a sailboat this is what you would want. something that sits there at the ready for when you need it. Gas or diesel is not the same for a sailboat. water in the fuel, bad fuel, rust and so on. This is not so much a problem with power boats because they use them every time and for long periods. This is good for an engine. Running an engine for very short times does not heat it up enough to burn off the moisture in the system. And then you get into the smell and danger of a live a board environment with gas or diesel.

Maybe electric would not look so bad against sculling the boat when needed. As a live a board this just opened up so many solutions for me. not to mention space.
