[Electric Boats] Re: Limping home

John, Most of my experience is with Lith and NiMH and I am by no means an expert on lead variants- I tip my hat to your theories. I left AGM batteries behind for our portable product the minute we calculated Peukert's share. But in the case of our little Swe Pea that uses cheap 24 group flooded batteries, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that there was still that much usable energy left. Your probably right about the effects of a little recharging and a hybrid solution is pretty nice.

A little side comment about Solar; We're working on a solar recharger for kayaks because of the huge interest. We can size a nice panel system for our product that charges it fully in one day in July in the Pacific Northwest. But in January it takes 10 days to charge. It's dawning on me that there are regionally distinct solutions to the problems we discuss here.

So, remembering that I am not hung up on keeping to 'green' charging methods, maybe just a quick run of a gas or diesel gennie could get such a situation turned around. Also, I think that there might be a situation where bubbles on the plates kind of 'insulate' a battery, as I have had some success with cars, by rocking the battery to allow it to bubble up to the top, leaving more plate area wetted. Again, another advantage of electric.
