Re: [Electric Boats] Re: 3 Phase AC motor Controller \ Inverter

Here in the UK, there are companies that re-wind 3-phase ac motors for lower voltage operation.  The narrow boat 'Birdswood', operating as a trip boat on a short length of the otherwise disused Cromford Canal in Derbyshire, uses a 48V battery feed, driving a VFD controller, which powers the re-wired 3-phase motor. This in turn drives a hydraulic pump to drive, via flexible hoses, the existing hydraulic motor and propeller built into the large wooden rudder of the canal narrow boat.

(Not as nice a a BLDC direct-drive rim-drive propellor unit of course, but much lower cost.)

I'm sure that in the USA you must have suppliers who also can sell you a rewound 3-phase motor, suitable for 48V (or 60V or 72V perhaps) that can be driven from the ubiquitous Chinese variable-frequency drive controllers.

Oh that would explain why i couldnt find information on the output voltage.

Well that makes the whole idea of a a Induction motor no longer cost effective. I would need a transformer in this case introducing another costly piece of equipment. It would also lower the efficency and introduce one more point of failure.
Then i might aswell just Buy a BLDC motor and Controller.
