Re: [Electric Boats] Outboard conversion

I've been considering doing very similar to that with an old scott attwater lower I have kicking around here, with maybe 2 900 watt 24v motors from monsterscooterparts.com site, which would be maybe 2.1 hp. the lower having the F-N-R shifter in it would take away any need for reverse polarity voltages.. I dont know if a single throttle controller to 2 speed controllers is gonna be workable.. but its 2hp for lots less money than a torqueedo!
it might be something to get a look at anyhow.

the old scott lower uses a 1/2 shaft is easy enough for bearings, pulleys or sprockets.
it'd sure be a big step up from a "custom butcherized" 12v Minn Kota trolling motor.

I'm building an 18' Cape Cod Catboat, and am determined to have an electric drive for it. Hanging any kind of motor from the transom of a classic design doesn't appeal at all, so have been exploring skeg/keel mounted options. The ED drive from Glen-L -
http://www.glen-l.com/designs/special/electricdrive.html - looks promising, although I've never been able find anyone who's used it. The closest I can find are two members of this forum who have replaced the IC engine of an outboard with a Mars electric motor. They have posted in the Photo section- they are:

I would really like to make contact with them to find out how well this has worked out for them, and what specific motor, controls, etc. they used. I'm not an electronics person at all, but I've found that a company named ThunderStruck offers a complete motor/controller, etc. package that appears to be pretty straight-forward.
Any info on this approach would be greatly appreciated! Thanks
