Re: [electricboats] Elco outboards

Ah - very nice!!!    Sorry - I thought you meant a fleet of boats, not a "Fleet" design.
It'll be fun to see if anyone can provide an answer on the Elco.

It would also be interesting to see the theoretical max speed of the 48V Torqeedo vs. the theoretical max speed of the Elco, based on the pitch of the prop.

What were you planning to do for your battery pack?
For proof of concept testing, and then as a "backup / get home" option after you get your main bank, you might consider a 30AH 48V e-bike battery.   At low power levels (700W), you can still get over an hour out of a 30Ah e-bike battery, and 700W will probably be enough for a slow cruise on that boat.

Google Lillistone 'Fleet'. A light, sleek 15' hull for low power. If it will do 11 mph on a gas 4hp, I should be able to get decent range out of 6kWh for tootling around the (protected) backwaters of coastal North Carolina. If it turns out to be slower than that, that will be fine too.

I will be testing the boat with my old 3.3hp Nissan 2 stroke, and my Torqueedo 800, before going for a higher end electric setup.

I'm just looking for anyone who has experience with the Elco outboards.
