[Electric Boats] electric boat 99mph.. mine not that fast

Hello everyone, i saw an electric boat and also new motor in 'soundings' magazine june 2013.  a  bit extreme perhaps but good to see them pushing it.  first was the "mercedes cigarette amg electric drive, it has 12 electric motors-2200 hp and hits 99mph.  four 60kwh batteries are energized by two 22kw chargers, a full charge takes seven hours.  cigaretteracing.com.."

the second item was an electric motor, a torqeedo deep blue 80hp electric outboard.  "on an 18' zodiac, acelleration at the low end of the rpm range was immediate, but it waned in the midrange, lacking the bump of a gas motor.  still the zodiac topped out at 20 knots.  outboard is $20,000, battery banks of 2, 3, and 4 are approx $33,000, $49,500, and $66,000 respectively.  www.torqeedo.com".  my comment would be the electric motor also lacked the fumes(and damage done by them).

i myself have a sailboat trimaran 25', a light boat(approx 2000lbs) and on very long very narrow hulls.  it is still only getting used in my yard on the trailer  but launch coming soon(it was a fixer upper).  so i became interested in electric motors as my boat is possible for this, yet also ideally a bit larger multihull might be more ideal.  anyway enjoy everyone's posts, ideas, pics and projects.   Best wishes, john in jupiter
