Re: [Electric Boats] Ridding Currents - Sun Powered Duffy

Eric and All,
Well the trip from Newport to Long Beach and then Long Beach to Avalon was interesting. The Duffy is not very good in open seas as it was not designed for that type of passage. This is what I was able to learn from spending time with Billy (much of it was at the Marlin Club for you Catalina Island fans).
- Riding Currents is a standard Duffy 22.
Length: 22' - 0"
Beam: 9' - 3"
Draft: 29"
Capacity: 12 Adults
Displacement: 4,315 lbs.
Top Speed: 6.0 MPH
Running Time:
@ Cruising Speed: 12.5 hours
@ Top Speed: 6.5 hours

Riding Currents has 2 banks of 16 Trojan T145s. There is also a temporary pack of 8 T145 for the 100 mile run. The batteries are lined along the port and starboard seats and do make the boat a little rocky in any significant sea way. The boat rides really low and with 6 passengers it was really low in the water but could still make 5kts.
