That being said, if the charger does not reduce its charging output sufficiently to keep the vent valve of am AGM battery from venting, it will release gases and if charging continues, the gases will eventually change to hydrogen sulfide as the batter gets hot enough to melt down...

I spoke with my USCG rep about this issue a few years ago. The AGMs I as going to use did not require boxes. All other requirements regarding installation (ventilation, restraint, insulation, location, etc.) still apply.
